Reusable or disposable? Cleaning cloth variants – a closer look

In principle, cleaning cloths have only one task: to reliably clean the machines and tools that must be cleaned. Whether in industry or the trades, cleaning cloths are used daily and they are needed daily. Have you ever drawn up a comparison for your company between disposable cleaning cloths, such as cleaning cloth rolls and cleaning paper versus reusable cleaning cloths?

Disposable brings added value

Particularly with regard to the environment, reusable cleaning cloths clearly win the point – i.e. reusable wipes. Reusable cleaning cloths can also be rented in the practical full-service system. This means that after use the cleaning cloths will be picked up on a regular basis, washed and brought back for new use. Thanks to the high product quality they can be washed up to 50 times. If a cleaning cloth is worn out, it is automatically replaced with a new cloth. On the other hand a conventional disposable cleaning cloth simply ends up in the rubbish bin.

Thanks to a recycling system for the rinse and wash water, MEWA consumes 50% less water than conventional washing processes. The cascade technology filters reusable wash water from the last few rinse cycles. This water can subsequently be used again for other wash cycles. 

Non-ionic tensides are used as detergent. These tensides are biodegradable, dermatogically tested and also non-hazardous during use.

Quality and safety first

Quality control at MEWA

  • MEWA employees visually inspect the wipes and sort out heavily soiled or severely worn ones by hand.
  • Computerised inspection of wipe weight: Wipes that are too heavy (stubborn soiling) or too light (severely worn) are separated automatically.
  • Inspection for metal residues: Every wipe is put through a metal detector, which can identify any metal residues in the wipe and then sort it out accordingly.

Safe storage of hazardous goods

Oil-smeared or solvent-soaked rags are considered hazardous goods during transport and require proper handling. To ensure all regulations are met, MEWA developed special airtight safety containers that prevent contaminants in the wipes from igniting.
