The glass making company Gerresheimer Essen GmbH was founded in 1723 and is one of the oldest industrial enterprises in Essen, and it has one of the richest traditions. It is part of the Gerresheimer Group, headquartered in Düsseldorf with 45 locations worldwide. The world’s leading manufacturer of glass packaging for the pharmaceutical industry, cosmetic industry and food industry employees approximately 380 people in Essen and 10,000 people worldwide. Every year more than one billion bottles run over the conveyor belts of the traditional enterprise.

Temperatures of 40°C and up, dry and hot air. Here and there flames flare up towards the ceiling – molten iron as far as you can see. In this literally breath-taking atmosphere, workers of the "Hot End" of Gerresheimer Essen GmbH, the world's leading manufacturer of glass packaging for pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and small spirits. Even when exiting the machines the glass containers still have a temperature of 450°C. Those who work here need cool heads and clothing that can handle sweat.

Why MEWA?

Protecting the employees from burns, cut injuries and the like is the top priority at Gerresheimer. Due to the extreme temperatures and the danger of injury, the quality requirements imposed on the employees' clothing are extremely high, naturally, in addition the wear comfort must not be neglected. Initially the company chose a service provider that could not meet Gerresheimer's quality requirements. The clothing was not always delivered punctually and garments were suddenly missing. Then the company decided for MEWA: "We already knew MEWA from before. We were always very pleased with the MEWA wiper service", explains Christine Conrad, strategic buyer at Gerresheimer Essen GmbH.

Heat protection and wear comfort in one

MEWA Ideal® Protect complies with all standards prescribed for protective clothing that must be worn at industrial workplaces exposed to heat, and thanks to the soft and supple fabric it nonetheless it offers a pleasant wear feel. "For the clothing it is important that it is not heavy, it must allow a person to move freely. In this area the protective clothing from MEWA is very comfortable," praises Leroy Ermels, who as machine supervisor relies on MEWA quality daily.

Professional full service included

The MEWA service is aligned precisely to Gerresheimer's requirements. For example, six T-shirts per week are available to each employee on the Hot End. To wash this quantity of clothing privately is a task of Sisyphus; it is task that you would be pleased to put into professional hands. This measure also ensures that the protective function remains intact.

Now a total of approx. 400 employees of the Gerresheimer Group wear the clothing from MEWA. Thanks to the personal name badge and company logo everyone knows who they are dealing with immediately. In addition, the clothing of the different work areas differs in colour and function. "The collaboration with MEWA runs without problems. Work clothing and protective clothing is a topic that I no longer work up a sweat about", laughs Thomas Rau.
